So, we went to watch the Chiefs play yesterday and I got an actual bonafide sunburnt face, in October! The game was great. The team broke an NFL record by scoring 8 rushing touchdowns. In fact they made it just seem like a piece of cake. This is how they should play every week, like a well oiled machine.
Mark's boss had a tailgate party first (I knew I should have brought something, it was all meat and chips) and we stuffed ourselves with bratwurst and hamburgers. I still had to have nachos once the game was half-over. It's tradition, man! Along with the $6 beer.
So nice to spend a day just having fun. Talked to Mom later and that was nice too. She's starting to sound a bit brighter. But she was definitely in the mood to talk, I think I may need to adjust my long distance calling plan. I don't think an hour a month is enough any more! She said the lady who played the music at my wedding died. Which is sad, but apparently she had been ill for some time.
The plants that we took away from the funeral parlor are in Mom and Dad's church. Mom walked past the peace lily on Sunday as she was entering and said it helped, somehow, just seeing the plant that had been bought for Dad's funeral. It made me think of the last birthday present I sent him (I'm notorious for forgetting birthdays) and it was also a plant. even after it had croaked they still kept it around, somehow that helps as well.
She's been ridding the house of all the junk he accumulated, but along with that she's keeping a box of keepsakes. She told me that the reason she was working on packing his stuff up and moving it out is because for her own father, she had held on too long and didn't sell the house for two years after his death because she was having trouble letting go. She's determined not to do that this time. I understand. It's still hard to see his things being removed, as if his presence in the house is also being removed. But that's my problem, not hers and it's her house. Not mine and she needs to be able to be comfortable there. So I'm all for anything that helps with that.
