It's really easy for me to forget, sometimes, when I'm remembering some annoying thing a customer did, that there are so many more customers who are wonderful. People who love books. Who come in, looking stunned at the size of the store and ask, in hushed tones, "there's more floors?" That's when I beam and nod and rattle off what else there is in my store. I love that.
And last week, while I was refreshing the History table (We have so many CA and History books we split the holiday CA/History table into two tables) I dropped $14 out of my pocket. I thought it was gone for good, but a customer walking past the Info desk turned it in to my manager (who also didn't just pocket it) and I got it back.
I couldn't find the guy to reward him with a coffee, but I did walk around with a happy buzz the whole rest of the day.
