We went to St Louis for the day to celebrate the holiday. Two of my cousins were there who I hadn't seen for quite some time. In one case it had been at least 10 years. She had 4 of her 5 sons with her. A rowdy, friendly and rather charming bunch. Was cute how the two oldest ones there seemed to communicate best through facial expressions and, well, shoving and poking. Yes, these boys are definitely all boy. LOL

There were 26 of us today. That's, wow, the most family I've seen in one spot since my parents' golden anniversary. There was a bittersweet element to the day, however, my Mom's most recent mammogram has indicated a change and she has to get a biopsy. It's very worrying, since she's battled cancer before. But now it's what? 15 years later? And her energy stores aren't what they used to be. Still, it's just a change, really no need to fret until they tell us to fret.

Still, we managed to have a really lovely day. There was a lot of laughing and telling of bad jokes and stories. My cousin's youngest son is a really sweet, impressionable kid who shook everyone's hand as he left. *g* He was shocked to learn I watch Dexter's Laboratory (hey, I'm only 43, I'm not dead to cartoons!) His question to me was how do you get the ball in the cup. You know? That silly game where the ball is attached to a cup with a weird twisty string and you have to get it in? I am so not the person to ask, being completely uncoordinated.

My pie went over well *beam* It didn't come out quite right since I'm not terribly familiar with cooking food in an electric oven, but still, it tasted good and that's all the matters. I keep trying to tell folks that it's just the granny smith apples that make it good. *shrugs*

Work on the condo continues. We have a green bedroom now and a bed! Whee! The first bed we ever bought ourselves and it's so nice and comfortable. *happy sigh* The kitchen has to be repainted and we need a backsplash installed. Mark found a place that has the glass tiles I like for $10 a sheet. Would be so cool. I'd like the kitchen to be the dramatic element in the condo, since you see it right from the living room. We still have to get a couch and I want the red one I saw at Nebraska Furniture Mart, damnit!

It's so nice to have this new place where I can invite people. Our house is in such a condition that I never want folks over. But I do now (want visitors), so it's up to us to make it a place fit for visits. Time to stop the hermit lifestyle. :)
