Saturday I had several inches cut of the length of my hair. A few flips through a magazine And I'd found the perfect style, so I showed it to the woman at Great Clips and between the two of us, we agreed on a style that worked for me.
And hour or so later I went to work and the compliments started. Flush from that, I dyed my hair the next day. It was supposed to be auburn brown, it came out RED. The compliments intensified. People were doing double takes, one manager actually poked her head in the breakroom and said how "really really cute" it was.
Usually, at this point, I'd be grumbling about all the extra attention. Yeah, it's hair, how nice, thanks, whatever. But the fact is I really thought about this for some time and was nervous about cutting off all this hair I've been growing out for years. Plus I was breaking rules I've set for myself, because of other irritating hair cuts. And I also just happened on someone in a cheap haircutting place who really knew her stuff (she'll be moving on soon, I can guarantee it.)
It's a real boost to my ego to hear more than one person say, "you look beautiful." I can't tell you the last time this rotund woman heard that. LOL Yeah, it's just hair, but this has happened at a time when I've been making some changes in how I eat, approach work, even in how I dress. And other, more inward, things I won't go into here.
I had a real downswing for a time and it's good to experience the upswing. Maybe I appreciate it more? Who knows? I'm still figuring stuff out. :)
