We went to the bank and did some financial stuff, I also checked the balance on the checking account. This is the time of year when money gets so tight I start to wonder if the direct deposit for my paychecks is working (it is.) Every year I wait until the very last day to send in my tax payment. I have to say I resent like hell forking over this money. Yes, I know the city streets need improving, yada yada. Still, the city already charges me a tax to simply live in it and this is reflected in my paychecks. The bill for owning property is simply the years end spank we all must endure. Doesn't mean we have to like it...

After the bank we went to Russell Stovers to take advantage of the after Christmas sale. Bought a box of chocolates with Elvis's face on the front of the tin. This (the empty tin, rather) will go to Mike, the Elvis fan extraordinaire. And then we went to the grocery store. Why do we always say we only have a few things to get? Why not be honest? "I need dog food, cat food and all the junk food I can find on sale." I did balance it with the purchase of salad fixings, go me! ;)

Sitting here with the flickering Christmas lights on. I feel such a sense of accomplishment whenever I look at it. Because I managed to get past that anti-holidays doldrums I've had for a few years now. Of course, in a week the thing has to come down...
