Today hubby and I ran around getting stuff for our vacation starting in just one week! New sneakers, new belts, new backpack (only $3.24 at Target, OMG!) and assorted little bottles and little trip sized containers of stuff. We still need to pack for the trip, buy car food and plan out just exactly where we're going. Our method on these trips is usually driving until exhaustion sets in and staying in the cheapest place we can find.

Last year was Ohio and visiting [livejournal.com profile] loreleif This year we're hopping from one place to the other, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Salt Lake City, Denver and whatever else we can look at along the way. The point is getting away from our normal lives and seeing something we've not seen before. After years of never going anywhere, these "hit the road and go" vacations are still a real novelty. :)

Due to some RP lately, I've been re-introduced to New Wave music. My current kick is Midge Ure and Ultravox. And it's all the fault of [livejournal.com profile] loreleif I simply wished to research his music for my writing and have been led to: If I was: The very best of Ultravox and Midge Ure, a DVD of Midge's Rewind tour which introduced me to Russell Watson and his The Voice album. Next is an mix of New Wave music (OMG, Arcadia's Election Day!) and now. Vienna from Ultravox, which is my favorite of all the stuff so far. How was I not a big Ultravox fan in the 80s? They were amazing! Oh, right, cause I'm American and they didn't play them much on the radio here.

I did remember seeing the clip up in Youtube of them singing Reap the Wild Wind and One Small Day back when it was live on Live Aid.

And now, listening to this Vienna album, I'm recalling hearing this music in soundtracks of movies. Although I couldn't tell you which ones they were. *sigh*
